DEPARTMENT: CAMP GIFFORD POSITION TITLE: SECOND COOK STATUS: SEASONAL, FULL-TIME SUPERVISOR: HEAD (1st) COOK

SCOPE OF POSITION:

To assist with the daily preparation of food from menus that have been established. To assist with the preparation of food in such a way that will make a positive contribution to the health and nutritional standards of Camp Gifford. To help in the supervision of meal preparation, giving guidance to other kitchen staff in the absence of the Head (1st) Cook.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience working with children preferred
  • Kitchen experience preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Possess all food handler certification(s) as required by state and local law
  • Able to maintain cleanliness & safety standards for kitchen and food services
  • Possess good leadership skills and ability to supervise other staff
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Publisher) required
  • Be able to pass a child safety background check

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Create and produce menu items according to USDA SFSP summer meal patterns
  • Assist with all food service preparation as assigned by the Head (1st) Cook
  • Assist with meal service portioning as assigned by the Head (1st) Cook
  • Be familiar with quantity requirements for menu items and ready to take the lead on meal preparation and portioning if required
  • Assist with all inventory procedures, making certain all food removed from stock room, refrigerators and freezer is properly accounted for and documented by those removing the food
  • Coordinate your daily work schedule with the Head (1st) Cook for efficient preparation of food
  • Assist with cleaning and care of kitchen, all work areas and equipment
  • Maintain safe work habits in accordance with all government regulations. Make certain that behavior of those in the kitchen area is always exemplary and in keeping with professional standards.
  • Work in harmony with all other cooks and food service staff relative to daily work schedules for the efficient operation of food services
  • Assist in other duties as assigned by the Head (1st) Cook or Summer Operations Director
  • Ensure camp staff snack and evening camper snack is served and cleaned up
  • Assist in communicating needs from the kitchen and staff to the Food Service Manager
  • Supervise kitchen operations in the absence of Food Service Manager

GENERAL DUTIES:

  • Exhibit effective Christ-like conduct and service as an appropriate example for campers and staff
  • Give support to the total camping program performing all other duties required to provide a consistently excellent program
  • Attend and participate in all camp programs as required including, but not limited to evening programs, chapel activities and staff meetings
  • Follow all policies and procedures
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in your person and living quarters
  • Assist with cleanup of the total camp at the end of teach session and at the conclusion of the summer

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis
  • Grasp, push, pull objects, and reach overhead
  • Operate telephone and computer
  • Lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Understand verbal and written information
  • Sweep, clean and perform other janitorial tasks as needed

COVID-19:

Once a conditional offer has been made and then accepted by the applicant, The Salvation Army may then ask specific questions about vaccination status, if applicable. If the applicant requests an exemption, then processes described in this summary should be followed.

Retirement Plans: Employer-funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at five years eligible service time. Plus, an employee-funded voluntary 403(b) option.

Parental Leave: The benefit is 40 hours of Paid Leave for qualifying events.

Sick Leave: 12 days of Sick Leave annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after three months' service time.

Paid Vacation:

  • Two weeks annually, accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions
  • Four weeks annually, accruing from day one, for exempt positions
  • Accrued vacation is eligible for use after six months' service time

Paid Holidays: 13 designated holidays + 1 floating holiday per year
